From September 2026, all primary schools in England will follow updated statutory guidance from the Department for Education (DfE) for Relationships and Health Education (RHE). In response, drb Ignite Multi Academy Trust has reviewed its RHE policy and curriculum to ensure it meets the new requirements and remains appropriate for pupils.

What is changing?

The updated guidance introduces several key developments:

  • Stronger online safety focus – helping children understand and respond to risks they may encounter online
  • Use of correct body part names – supporting safeguarding and clear communication
  • Broader personal safety education – including everyday risks such as roads, water, railways and fire
  • Greater focus on emotions, change and loss – supporting wellbeing, resilience and understanding of bereavement
  • Clearer inclusion of different families – ensuring all pupils feel represented, including those with same-sex parents
  • No fixed age limits – schools use professional judgement to ensure content is age-appropriate
  • Stronger partnership with parents – schools must consult parents and share curriculum materials

The Trust has ensured that all statutory updates are reflected in the RHE curriculum. The existing Sex and Relationships Education (SRE) content will continue, as it already meets requirements and is appropriate for pupils.

You can view the current curriculum on the PSHE section of the school website:
