You may have seen recent media coverage regarding Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) and its use in schools. RAAC is a type of concrete over which, concerns have been raised about its long-term durability.

Department for Education (DfE) has recently changed its guidance on the management of RAAC that includes closing some schools and restricting the use of some spaces.

All schools in the drb Ignite Trust remain unaffected by the recent DfE announcements about closures for RAAC and will open as normal.

drb Ignite Trust has worked with the DfE to identify and manage the potential risks associated with RAAC since 2018.

This year, the Trust has engaged professional bodies to undertake in depth surveys of all our schools. The results have confirmed we do not have any RAAC in our buildings and have not been asked to close any areas.

We appreciate you may have concerns and be reassured that we will always prioritise the safety of your children and our staff.

We will prioritise the continuation of education and ensure that, if RAAC is identified we will let you know straight away and ensure any impact on our pupils and staff is kept to a minimum.

We hope this reassures you and your families that our buildings are safe and pupils can continue to attend with no risk to them.
