This summer we are so excited that Birmingham is hosting the 2022 Commonwealth Games at the enhanced and refurbished Alexander Stadium.
The games are often referred to as the Friendly Games and involve athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations. Taking place between 28th July and 8th August, the city will welcome over 6600 competitors and their teams from 72 nations. Over one million tickets have been sold and 40,000 local volunteers will be helping to make sure everything runs smoothly.
Our Trust schools have been enjoying this excitement by taking part in their own mini commonwealth games through a number of family events held on school sites. All events have been really well attended by families who have been able to enjoy a festival atmosphere with sporting activities, music, food, face painting and, thankfully, lots of sunshine!
Headteachers and school staff have been planning the events for several months and the Trust would like to say a huge thank you for all the time and effort staff have put into these wonderful community events.
An extra-special, massive thank you goes to Francisco Garcia Justicia and Laura Benson, our amazing teachers who have co-ordinated the school events and worked with the Birmingham Commonwealth planning Team to secure funding. Thanks too to our Director of Estates, Geoff Bagley for making sure everyone had a great time and was safe.
We are so looking forward to the next few weeks in Birmingham! Happy holidays and happy Commonwealth Games everyone!
